Size (H x W): 70 x 85 cm

This painting offers a bird’s eye view of desert Country during a bushfire, a powerful force in both nature and culture. For desert people, fire is a traditional tool of renewal — used to care for Country, encourage regrowth, and manage resources in harmony with the land.

Danny paints in the legacy of his grandfather, Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri, whose stories and techniques live on in his work. The use of fine dotting and strong linework reflects this influence.

By painting Bushfire Dreaming, Danny continues a line of cultural storytelling passed down through generations. His work connects ancestral knowledge with present-day practice, sharing stories of survival, land care, and spiritual responsibility. Each element in the painting carries deep meaning — not just for what is seen, but for the memory it keeps alive.

About the Artist – Danny Possum Tjampitjinpa

Danny Possum Tjampitjinpa is an emerging Indigenous artist from Alice Springs, and the son of Michelle Possum Nungurrayi and grandson of Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri - two of the most respected names in Australian Aboriginal art.

Growing up surrounded by artists and storytellers, Danny has inherited a deep cultural knowledge and a strong visual language. His paintings reflect his grandfather’s iconic style, blending traditional Aboriginal symbolism with layered dot work to tell stories of Country, Dreaming, and identity.

Danny now lives in Victoria with his wife and their two sons. He continues to paint with respect for his heritage and pride in his family’s cultural legacy.
